Every message has a shortest description. No algorithm can always find it.We look for it anyway.

EIDOSIA is a computer science laboratory. We investigate the hard limits of computation, from logic to physics, and we build Android applications with the same method: bound, reduce, refute.

Method

Three operations, applied to everything we make.

They come from mathematics and the scientific method. We apply them to a file as to a piece of software, to a screen as to a sentence.

01

Bound

Before looking for a solution, we look for the limit: the best result possible, which no one can beat. It tells us how far to search, and when to stop.

02

Reduce

We look for the shortest form of each thing: what remains once everything that could be removed is gone.

03

Refute

Before publishing, we look for what could prove us wrong. What holds stays; what gives way is corrected.

LOWER BOUND

What no machine, however fast, will ever get around.

The series in which the laboratory investigates the hard limits of computation: the costs that no method can beat, the questions that no program can answer. One file at a time, every claim sourced.
